A man enters a restaurant in Trastevere, in the suburbs of Rome, and asks the owner to cook him the superb bass he has just been given. He wants it served at the dinner gathering like every year the group of inseparable friends he is a member of. The others join him. The last to come is a lawyer who has just liquidated the succession of the one that will be missing tonight. The deceased leaves them an estate in Umbria provided they live there in community. What will the friends decide during this dinner like no other?

Kiko is a teenager whose now dead father was Italian and his mother Marilou is from the Philippines. They live with Ennio, mother's new boyfriend, a foreman who recruits and exploits illegal migrant workers. Kiko goes to school but at the same time he is forced to work in Ennio's building yards. He feels he lives in a wrong planet. There's only one place where Kiko can dream: an old abandoned bus in a dump yard that he's turned into his private refuge. One day it seems his fate could change: an elderly friend of his father's, Ettore, comes looking for Kiko and offers to become a strange kind of tutor for him. But one day Ettore reveals to Kiko his real identity...

Originally "Uomini e donne" was a talk show about real relationships inspired from the previous "Amici". A few men and women are introduced at the beginning of the seasons as "Tronisti" (they sit on a throne) together with a set of suitors who, over the course of the show, will have to court their "Tronista" of choice both in the studio and during dates filmed in various locations. The objective is to form stable couples by the end of the season, as the "Tronisti" choose which suitors to keep or dismiss and finally pick the one person they intend to start a relationship with. It is then this chosen person who has the final say and must decide to either accept or refuse the offer. The show revolves around discussions held between the participants, the host, members of the live audience and other guests who have the role of advisers.
